Wanna hear something crazy? Well it’s not crazy-crazy but well, you be the judge…. When I was pregnant with Jaiden I did NOT prepare a “Hospital Bag”. I literally went in with whatever I had on and went home with it too. To be honest, I don’t know what I was thinking but I just never got around to actually preparing one.
I was the first of my friends and my sisters to have a baby and no one ever said I actually needed one. I do remember my mom mentioning something about slippers but maybe my age and my #MOMBRAIN didn’t really think anything of it. Social media wasn’t what it is today so I couldn’t look to my fellow bloggers for tips either. But I survived. Fast forward to when I was pregnant with MJ, there was social media, blogger friends and of course Pinterest that helped me prepare.
I became obsessed with reading about what other expectant moms were carrying to the hospital, trying to get ideas as to what I should pack. It was overwhelming! I think I over packed and also under packed, if that makes sense. For example, I forgot to pack a shirt to go home in but I packed the rest of my go home outfit. I also packed everything for Hommy except I forgot to pack him a pair of underwear so he couldn’t even shower LOL. But I did manage to pack MJ like 3 outfits and other things that I didn’t even use. My brain was all over the place I tell ya!
Well this time around, I waited till the very end to pack and I made sure I packed the absolute necessities. Packing to me is like adding to my cart when shopping…I just keep adding and I end up with things I don’t actually need. First I needed a bag! I got this one at Walmart for only $13.79!!! It’s huge!! I always try to get things I know I can reuse for other occasions and this totally doubles for a weekender bag since I can fit sooo much inside! Plus look at the cute pattern!! Here’s my list of what I put inside :
WHAT I PACKED FOR THE HOSPITAL
For Me
- A “Go Home” Outfit – (I packed this dress because to me it was easier to throw on, it’s lose so that’s a plus) I actually bought this dress in a lot of colors and I wore them throughout my pregnancy. They are loose and comfortable and less than $10!!! Go get it girls!
- Stretchy Bra – I bought 2 of these , they are stretchy and comfortable. Less than $5 !!
- Panties – A pack of comfy panties like these . I actually happen to like the mesh panties they give you at the hospital but I did have a pack of these in my bag. I wore it on top of the mesh panties on my way home for tighter support.
- Socks – I know the hospital gives you a pair of socks but for me they’re really big and end up sliding off. I found a cute pair at Walmart on clearance for $1 so I packed those.
- Hospital Gown – I was gifted this super cute gown that I wore on my last day when my friend came to visit. It was wayyy cuter than the regular hospital one they give you. It’s super comfortable, has pockets and they come in other cute designs as well.
- Make Up Bag – Duhhhhhh cuz I didn’t want to scare my new baby or the nurses!
For Hommy –
- Socks
- Sweats
- Underwear
- T-Shirt
For Baby –
- Swaddle Blanket – I packed 2! A set with a headband that I never used and a plain one.
- Hospital Hat – I bought this cute little hat on Etsy for photos. For MJ, I was not too fond of the winter looking hat the hospital gave so I knew I had to buy one this time around.
- Pacifier
- Take Home Outfit – Although I didn’t have her take home outfit yet you should definitely pack a take home outfit for the baby.
Random –
- Camera
- Phones and Chargers
- Photo Props ( I took my Felt Board with me)
That is all I packed, that’s honestly all I needed and all I used. I made sure I didn’t OVER PACK or UNDER PACK this time around. The hospital honestly gives you everything you could possibly need so you don’t really need much anyway.
WHAT I PACKED FROM THE HOSPITAL
Yeah I said it! There are definitely some things you should be packing from the hospital to take home with you! Don’t be shy, take it all! And ask for more if you need to!!
- The Mesh Panties – The mesh panties have come a long way! The ones they give now are actually good! If you don’t want to buy new panties just take advantage of the mesh panties! They are snug and comfortable and if you happen to stain them you just throw them out.
- The Pads – Yes they’re huge but so what?! It’s what you need for the time being, until you know, everything goes back to normal and you can go back to tampons.
- The Squirt Gun – (that’s what I call it and I’m sure you know what I’m talking about) If you can use it at the hospital then you can use it at home also.
- All The Baby Stuff – yup, the diapers, the little hat, the little shirts, the wipes, the burp cloths, the blanket (just because you know you wanna keep it forever) , the milk….take it all! The nurses should restock before you leave so just take it. Even if you don’t like the wipes or the shirts…atleast take advantage and use it before you have to start using your own.
Is there anything that you take home from the hospital? I take it all ! LOL What’s in your hospital bag? Let me know in the comments below! As always, Thanks For Reading!
