“There’s No Way I’m Driving In That!!!”
That’s the first thing I said to my husband when he brought home a Honda Odyssey for me. Let’s be honest….I’m an Audi, Subaru, BMW kinda gal! I’ve driven lots of cars and a Mini Van was the last thing I thought I’d end up with! But to be honest with you, I don’t think I’d ever go back to driving a sedan. See, the Audi and the BWM were fine when we were a family of 3….maybe even after we became a family of four, but then our rides just became a little bit uncomfortable. Try breastfeeding in the back seat of BMW and then tell me how you really feel!
I put my pride to the side and I decided to give the ‘ol Mini Van a shot! First thing I said was “OMG I can stretch my legs!!” and the rest was history! Here are my top 4 Reasons I Am Now A Mini Van Mom –
- Low Gas Mileage – I literally feel like I can drive around the world in this car with just $20 in the tank! Ok I’m exaggerating a little bit, but you get my drift. When choosing the right vehicle for your family, you always want something that isn’t going to kill you on gas. We are such Road Trippin’ people that this was definitely a must!
- Space – Ummm We are a family of 4 and soon to be 5! So we need all the space we can get! Imagine 2 car seats in the backseat of a sedan!!!!! I’d die! The Mini Van has 3rd row seating and it’s perfect for when we have visitors! One time my sister-in-law came to visit with her 2 children and we needed 2 cars to get us around! Bummer right?! Now we all fit comfortably!
- Low Cost on Maintenance & Repairs – Have you ever gotten an Oil Change on a BMW? Ummmm it’s anywhere from $80 – $120 whereas the Mini Van is just $30!!!!! And that goes for other regular repairs or maintenance like shocks, brakes, and struts….those also cost much less for my Honda. When choosing a car you definitely don’t want anything that’s going to cost an arm and a leg to repair…which leads me to ….
- Reliability – I’ve had my Honda for about 2 years and :knock on wood: it has never left me stranded. I am not saying that all other cars will but Honda’s are especially known for their great reliability, low-cost of ownership and fewer breakdowns. And of course that definitely sold me!

I remember when my younger brother and I were just kids, my mom loved her mini van! When we got a little older, she bought a car and had that for years, but since we’ve gotten older and are now in our 20s, she recently got a bigger van again because she missed all the space it has.

I love-love-love my mini van! It did take me looking at about 10 different cars before I settled on the mini van, but I am now on my 2nd!

Sounds like you were converted and for the better. Getting a car that can grow with your families needs is always a bonus.

I had no idea different cars cost different prices for oil changes! Thankfully my hubby is super handy and does all of our car maintenance for us (he swapped out my engine a few years ago!) but this might just be the excuse I need to make the swap to a van 😉

yes it’s crazy ! my husband is a mechanic so I’ve learned a lot throughout the years about cars.. but even the smallest car part can cost more for one car rather than the other

I have no kids yet but love the space of a minivan. It’s great for group road trips and even moving.
