I’m sure we’ve all heard the phrase “NEW YEAR, NEW ME”…basically at the beginning of every new year we make a list of things we want to change in our lives. The list can include anything you want to change from eating healthier to taking daily walks to going on more vacations. To be honest, I always tend to make a list that I never even take a second look at. But this year I had one thing on my list and one thing only: “GET MYSELF BACK!”
I know what you’re thinking : “what does that even mean?” Well, I’m a SAHM, I have an 11 year old, a 1 year old and I’m pregnant. “SO?” you might ask…My life revolves around taking care of them and my needs just get shoved in the back somewhere where they basically don’t even exist anymore. I miss the old me, before the kids, when I got my nails done and was able to afford to get my hair done whenever I wanted. The last time I did either was over 2 years ago! How hard can 1 thing on a list be? I’ll tell you, so far we are in March and I have done nothing to GET MYSELF BACK.
After posting a photo on INSTAGRAM a few days ago I figured out what I should focus on first is my HAIR! The one thing I noticed in the photo was how dead my ends look. I’ve debated cutting my hair a lot lately but I remember how unhappy I was a few years ago when I cut it and I just can’t seem to go through that again. I decided to just switch up my routine and actually focus on repairing my damaged hair. My hair routine as of right now goes like this : Wash my hair with any shampoo and conditioner that’s on sale that my whole family can use, let it air dry, straighten it and by day 2 it’s up in a bun until I get a chance to wash it again. Pretty lame huh?
Well, the first change to make is to actually have a routine to follow…. after that I need to get a shampoo and a conditioner that is intended for my damaged hair…my son is 11, his hair isn’t damaged so why do we have to share? After visiting my local CVS I came across the Schwarzkopf Gliss™GLISS® Hair Repair™ products. I sat on the floor and read the information on each of the products because duh! who doesn’t read a little into products before buying and trying?! Believe it or not certain things we do daily can damage our hair, like washing it too often, or brushing it too much, touching it or even just the type of pillowcase we use.
I decided to go with the Schwarzkopf Gliss™ Ultimate Repair Shampoo & Conditioner which won the Allure Best of Beauty Award – best shampoo & conditioner for damaged hair, and the Ultimate Repair Mask which won Product of the Year – Most Innovated Hair Treatment of 2018 & also won People® Beauty Award for Best Hair Mask in 2017.
Did you know that hair loses Keratin over time? GLISS’ Hair-Identical Keratin replaces the lost Keratin for re-gained strength and smoother hair surface. The patented technology repairs up to 10 layers deep, replacing lost Keratin for beautifully strong & smooth hair. I plan on using these as my go to, meaning I’m not just going to use ’em when my hair needs severe help…I plan on using them even when my hair is looking and feeling great. Aside from new hair care here are some of the TOP things (there are more) I learned and will also change :
- Don’t Wash Hair EVERYDAY – My hair gets super oily and fast but washing often can do more damage than good. You don’t want to strip the natural oils off your hair and dry it out. So a little less washing is KEY!
- Don’t BRUSH too much – Raise your hand if the first thing you do when you get out the shower is comb through your wet hair! I know I do..it’s a bad habit. Although it’s ok to do this you should be making sure you are brushing the right way! I started using a DETANGLER brush which is gentle on hair.
- Use a SILK pillowcase – I used to do this when I was younger and it was a must for. Your cotton pillow can be adding to your damaged hair, it’s best to use a SILK pillowcase especially if you sleep with your hair loose like I do. It reduces frizz and keeps the hair smooth.
- Don’t twirl your hair – I’m the type to always have my hands in my hair…It’s like a nervous habit I have. I don’t know a girl that doesn’t twirl their hair often. But the same way we don’t touch our face with our hands is the same reason we shouldn’t touch our hair either : GERMS GERMS GERMS! So keep those hair twirling moments to a minimum.
If you’re a mom like me who has lost herself, wants to get herself back and wants to focus on hair repair then I suggest you head over to your local CVS in the Shampoo & Conditioner aisle and grab any of these products that better suits your hair because from 3-11 to 3-17 Gliss will be on sale for 2 for $10 – buy one get one free! Feel free to join me on this hair repair journey…or if there is anything else on the top of your list, let me know in the comments below.
As always thanks for reading!
