Next week is my due date and I have been running around like a nut case trying to get ready for this baby. Time sneaks up on you when you are pregnant! It seems like I announced this pregnancy yesterday! Well one thing that I knew I had to finish before this baby makes her arrival was give MJ a little gift. I figured the change would be really big for her so I’ve been trying my best to talk to her about “THE BABY” for months! She points to my belly and gives it kisses and says “BABY” all the time but I’m sure she really doesn’t have a clue. Cue in the BIG SISTER KIT.
I feel super guilty that Jaiden got 10 years with us alone before I had MJ and MJ literally got 2 years only. (I know I’m crazy) It feels like I’m gipping her of being the only baby in the house. I decided (thanks to PINTEREST) that I’d gift her a little something to “PREPARE” her for the new baby’s arrival. Now I didn’t want to get her too many things so I decided less is best and I went along with 4 items. On to what’s inside:
BIG SISTER KIT
At first I wanted to get her a little tote bag that said “BIG SISTER KIT” on it but I wondered when else would she use it? I’m all about re-using things so I opted for this super cute basket I found at Target. The size was perfect and I can leave it in her room as decoration.
WHAT’S INSIDE :
- Cupcake The Unicorn Organic Stuffed Animal – This adorable stuffed Unicorn is made of certified organic cotton and dyed with non-toxic and environmentally friendly GOTS approved dyes. I got both sizes (15 in. and 8 in.), One for MJ and the mini for her to gift to her new baby sister! Plus for every item purchased, they donate $1 to help provide clean drinking water and free education to villages in India!
- I Am A Big Sister – I included this sweet little book about a toddler preparing for a new sibling. The wording and illustrations are simply perfect for MJ’s age.
- Mini Wooden Toy Camera – This was a MUST! MJ sees me take pictures of everything so it was important for me to get her a little camera. I decided to go this route instead of the actual kids camera because she can play with and it won’t kill me if she slams it. I thought it would be cute for her to practice snapping some photos of her little sister.
- Big Sister/Little Sister Shirts – Of course I had to get them both matching T-Shirts! How cute are these?! I ordered these from a small business in my town (because duh shop small!). They were made super fast and since it was local I didn’t have to pay for shipping! Before you go shopping online to check in your own town for small businesses that can do the same. You’re supporting someones dream, plus saving on shipping!
Simple & Sweet! Don’t you think? I know what you’re thinking : ” Why didn’t you do this for Jaiden?” (or maybe I’m just feeling guilty lol). Jaiden was 10 when I had MJ. Things like this didn’t interest him & he was well aware of the changes that were about to happen. MJ on the other hand just turned 2. Although she doesn’t fully understand what’s about to happen this was just a simple gesture for me to try.
What did you guys do to prepare your little ones for the arrival of a new baby? I’d love to know in the comments below! As always, Thanks For Reading!

OMG what a great idea! My daughter would have LOVED this! One thing I wish now looking back was making a bigger “deal” of my daughter becoming a big sister. It’s a big new & important job! Great ideas!

This is so perfect. I think we forget that little ones really can feel some kind of way about a new baby and to acknowledge that they are STILL as important is wonderful. Good job and great ideas!! ❤️

So smart! When my son was born we brought him a racetrack that was a gift from the baby. He’s 7 now but he still remembers that his brother brought him that gift. 🙂
